Getting to know the Folklore team – Meet Britt

Our team Q&As give you an inside look at the people behind Folklore.

As an Investment Analyst, Britt helps us find Australia and New Zealand's most ambitious founders, and support them in achieving their visions. 

What brought you to Folklore and what will you be doing here? 

During my undergraduate degree, I worked at SAP in their Innovation Centre Network where I was exposed to various emerging technologies. My time at SAP is what sparked my love of technology and subsequently venture capital. 

After I graduated from The University of Queensland in 2019, I went to work for Deloitte in their Digital Finance and Technology Consulting team for a couple of years. Growing up, I was aware of VC because a few of my family members work in the Finance space. However, it wasn’t until early 2021 that I turned my interest into a passion by throwing myself into the space by absorbing every podcast, blog and book about VC that I could find. 

Venture capital is my dream field. I’ve long believed that VCs sit at the perfect intersection of people and technology. As an Investment Analyst, I get to support brilliant founders who are doing their life’s work and using disruptive technologies as a catalyst to transform the way the world operates.  

What about Australia and New Zealand’s startup ecosystem most excites you? 

We saw over $10B flow into the ecosystem in 2021 and expect this to only trend up in the coming years. Despite this, I believe that the VC sector is in its early stages of its life cycle in Australia and New Zealand and that there will be an increase in the emergence of amazing startups. 

What’s your superpower? 

My organisation skills. Although I have been focussing on strengthening my ability to go with the flow, I am a firm believer in the quote by Seneca, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” 

‍What technology sector are you most excited about?

Healthtech. From screening and diagnosis to care delivery – healthtech directly impacts lives. There is an exciting opportunity to improve patient health outcomes as well as cut healthcare costs. 

Where can we find you outside of work? 

You will find me spending time with my family and friends, swimming and reading at the beach or trying out some new places to eat.
