About the role

This is a career-defining opportunity to be a part of the Folklore journey into the future. With an undeniable curiosity for the startup ecosystem and passion to find the next great startup, you will pipeline and analyse investment opportunities and play a critical role in the investment process. In this role you will apply your learning and be passionate to continue that learning into your future at Folklore. 

In helping our companies succeed, you’ll be involved in ongoing founder engagement and the evaluation of the Folklore portfolio business performance in preparation for potential follow-on investment and performance benchmarking. Critical to the success of the team and the role will be raising Folklore’s presence through community engagement activities and working cross-functionally with our operations team to maximise external impact for Folklore.

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Pipeline Management:

  • Establish networks and trusted relationships with prospective founders, peers, operators and the broader ecosystem.
  • Attend ecosystem events, community gatherings, pitch nights and conferences.
  • Contribute to external comms to elevate personal and company brand in the ecosystem and add value to the community.

Investment Management:

  • A significant part of the role will be leading first meetings with founders to evaluate investment opportunity according to Folklore’s due diligence criteria.
  • Undertake due diligence analysis covering market, competition, traction, financials and returns and being founders key POC throughout.
  • Formulate initial investment thesis, communicate to the team and support Folklore’s Principals/Partners to present opportunities to the Investment Committee.

Portfolio Management and Reporting:

  • Efficiently maintain internal records of portfolio performance, investment returns performance and monitor runway.
  • Identify opportunities for portfolio support/growth and working cross functionally with Folklore’s Operations team.
  • Attend and record minutes at Board meetings.

Fundraising:

  • Undertake detailed research into core thematics and interest areas, educating the whole Folklore team on insights.
  • Undertake detailed research and analysis to support fundraising activity.

Operations:

  • Assist Finance with periodic fund administration, reporting, compliance and specific Limited Partner reporting.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the firm’s programs, processes and approach.

About you

  • You are passionate about early-stage startups, technology and the ANZ startup and VC ecosystem.
  • You’ve got a background in one or more of these areas: investment, consulting, startup operations or as a company founder.
  • You are inquisitive and curious by nature. You aren’t shy about asking probing questions and can systematically solve complex problems.
  • You have strong financial modelling and financial literacy skills and get a kick out of identifying insight through analysis.
  • You’re a self-starter, comfortable working autonomously, and relish a fast-paced environment.
  • You have a mountain of hustle.
